Lollipop
Lollipop came to us from the city shelter last year, a tiny victim of cruelty and neglect. While it is hard to look at her "before" picture, we also can't look away, knowing that that it is possible to make a positive difference in the life of a little dog like Lollipop and others like her. You can see from her new pictures that Lollipop is a healthy and happy little princess today! Her adoptive mother has taken such good care of her, and Lollipop is never far from her side. With each dog that is placed into a loving home, we are joyfully reminded of why we do this and find the energy and strength to carry on.

While Lollipop is an extreme case, many of the dogs we take into our program have been neglected and come to us with health problems and emotional scars. Our adoption fees are never enough to cover the vet bills, so we depend on donations to make up the difference. Please help if you can! Money donated to our organization is used directly to benefit the dogs, allowing us to provide necessary surgeries, heartworm treatment, and other veterinary care.

Shea Needs Your Help
Hi everybody! My name is Shea. Boy was I happy to be rescued by Lil' Paws! I have been busy getting lots of attention and making new friends. Things were going pretty well for me, but then I was diagnosed with a diaphragmatic hernia. The doctor says this is a condition in which my intestines and other organs are displaced and enter the chest cavity. That's pretty scary, but everyone says I will be just fine after surgery. So now the people at Lil' Paws are hoping to raise some money to make me all better. Please help them if you can. I'm only one year old and my foster mom says I am just the sweetest little thing! I want to get well and be adopted and live happily ever after with my new family! If you would like to help, you can make a secure donation by clicking on the link or by mail. Thanks guys! And don't forget to check back for updates about me!
Love, Shea |

Grace
This beautiful girl was hit by a car and abandoned at the emergency room by her family who requested that she be put to sleep. Apparently, even though they had her for two years, she lived in their backyard and they never even got around to naming her! Grace, as she is now known, suffered four broken ribs, a broken jaw, and a broken pelvis. She also received a large wound to her head as well as abrasions all over her little body. While she has been through a terrible ordeal, Grace has an amazing spirit. She wags her tail when someone approaches to give her attention, and is very gentle and patient when she is being cared for. Thanks to Dr. Lewis at Animal Trustees of Austin and the many other people who have helped her, we are expecting that Grace will make a full recovery. She will have many tough times in the coming weeks but is feeling better with every passing day. Please keep her in your thoughts and check back for updates on Grace's progress.

Update: 10/21/2006
Hi everyone, this is Grace! As you can tell I have been in recovery from a accident of being hit by a car. Things are going so much better in my life now. I went back to my doctor (Dr. Lewis) this week and he gave my foster mom the thumbs up! While at my check up, they removed all of my staples and I even was able to walk a little bit. Pretty soon I will be outside running with the rest of my foster brothers and sisters!
My foster mom just dotes on me constantly, which is really cool since I have never had this kind of love given to me before. I really like when she picks me up and carries me all over the house with her while she is doing things. You would not believe how nice it is to finally have someone to love me. She is even making me lay on the couch so I can spend time with my foster brothers and sisters!
Check back for another update on me soon!

Update: 11/26/2006
Grace is doing very well and is such a playful, happy girl. It seems that her tail never stops wagging! She walks with a slight limp but gets around just fine, even running and playing with other dogs. What an inspiration this sweet little dog has been... so patient and loving, even when her condition must have been very painful and throughout her many weeks of confinement. She still has a wire in her jaw, which will be removed in the coming week, and then she will be ready to find her forever home!
Update: 2/9/2007
Grace is doing fabulous in her new forever home! Grace which is now called Annabelle has been in her loving forever home for almost a month now. She is very much loved by her new parents and sister Daphne (which is also a rescue dog).
"She is a blessing to have in our family and we are so thankful to have her. Just makes us laugh out loud sometimes watching her play!!! She and Daphne are great together...a match made in heaven!!!!" Richard and Zelma Richardson, Annabelle's new parents!

Jake and Elwood
Jake and Elwood were two of the first dogs to come into our program. They were rescued from the Williamson County Animal Shelter where they had been owner surrendered. As senior dogs, we knew their chances of being adopted from the shelter were slim, but we were hopeful that, given time, we could find them a home. "The boys", as they were fondly called, were very sad and confused at first but came around thanks to the love and care provided by their wonderful foster mom, Angela. Months passed as Jake and Elwood waited for their special person to come along. One day, someone expressed an interest in adopting Jake but didn't want to take Elwood because she found him "ugly". We had to pass because we knew they would not be happy if they could not be together. Then something truly amazing happened...
We received a call from a woman in Arizona named Annie. She knew all about Jake and Elwood, describing in detail their personality quirks, including how Jake liked to lick the wart on Elwood's head. She also knew their original names, which we were able to confirm from their paperwork. It was then we learned how Jake and Elwood ended up homeless. Their former owner was Annie's roommate in Arizona. She became very ill and moved to Texas with the dogs, to be close to her grown children. Sadly, she died a few months later. That was when the children left the dogs at the shelter. Annie missed her friend and the dogs, so she went to her local animal shelter to look for another dog. It was there that she learned about the Petfinder website. Later that evening, knowing it was unlikely she would find the boys, she ran a search on Petfinder for senior dogs in Texas. Elwood's picture was the first to pop up on her screen! She recognized him immediately, saw that Jake was safe, too and was overjoyed. She called our group to ask about them and not long after that, Annie and a friend made the long trip from Arizona to Austin for a happy reunion! Taz and Bosco (their original names) were so excited to see Annie and are now living the good life back in Arizona!

A BIG "Thank You" to Driftwood Cocktail Lounge in Honor of Jake and Elwood for their donation!
