Other Ways to Help

Special Needs Dogs

These dogs come into our program, but due to severe health and/or behaviorah problems, they are not ready to be adopted. But they still need your love and support. If you can, please help these dogs in need by donating to help cover their medical and/or training bills.

China, Laska, Scarlet, Masey, and Raleigh

China
Laska
Masey
Raleigh
Scarlet

On 3/4/07 Lil' Paws Maltese Rescue acquired five Maltese puppy mill dogs who were no longer "wanted". There are four girls and one boy who we have named China, Laska, Scarlet, Masey, and Raleigh.

Raleigh is the most socialized of the five; China, Laska, Scarlet, and Masey do not know what to do outside of a crate. They spend most of their days anxiously twirling in circles. This is tragic to watch, but common behavior with puppy mill dogs; until the time they were freed, their entire universe was a 3'x3' (or smaller) cage. Everything that our own dogs take for granted is alien to them.

Lil' Paws volunteers will be working over the next few weeks to get all of their vetting needs taken care of such as spay/neutering, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and dentals, as well as any other medical needs. As importantly, we will also be teaching these babies what it is like to be loved by a human and not known as just a number and puppy producer. It is heartbreaking to know that right now even love is scary to them.

We are reaching out for donations to help us with the cost of bringing these five babies into our organization. We anticipate medical bills to get all five fully vetted will be $1,000, more if there are other health problems.

THANK YOU to the following for donating:

In honor of Raleigh (now called Rowdy Foudy) and support of the rest who are still waiting for their Happy Tail to come true.

Velveeta

Velveeta

Velveeta is a 3 month old mix that came to Lil' Paws from a rural shelter. When she came into her new foster home she was so full of spunk and playfulness and oh so sweet! However, two days after her arrival she became sick. Her foster mom took her to the vet knowing that something was not right. Velveeta was not playing nor was she eating like she was the day before. The vet confirmed that she was sick... in fact really sick as she was diagnosed with Parvo.

Parvo is a viral disease that attacks the intestinal tract and immune system. Parvo is often fatal and strikes suddenly causing the dog to become extremely ill. Without treatment the animal often dies within a few days.

Velveeta is currently being treated for this horrible disease by Dr. Newman at Feather & Fur Animal Hospital. Velveeta's was caught in the early stages and we are hoping that she will pull through this and have a healthy and happy life.

However, the cost of treating this disease is very high. We are asking for donations to help with Velveeta's treatment for Parvo.
